How the President is Cutting Through Red Tape to Deliver Change in Three Days

Just three days into the 47th President’s term has left us at Poolside Politics much to celebrate.

First, let's focus on the first problem the President mentioned in his inaugural address on Monday: the Southern Border and fighting illegal immigration. By declaring a national emergency on the southern border, border patrol officials now have the tools to begin slowing the invasion of illegal immigrants flowing into our country. The National Guard and Ready Reserve have been deployed to the border to assist in curtailing illegals, and construction on the border wall is back underway. Additionally, efforts to prevent drones from smuggling illegal substances, such as fentanyl, are now in motion. The Mexican cartels have also been designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, signaling a new, aggressive approach to dismantling their influence along the border.

The Biden era CBP One app has been terminated, ending its misuse by migrants seeking asylum—an app that essentially turned into a public policy funnel, allowing large numbers of inadmissible migrants to be released into the U.S. under questionable asylum claims.

Congress has handed the President an early significant legislative victory, the Laken Riley Act, a bipartisan bill with 46 House Democrats and 12 Senate Democrats joining all Republicans in supporting it. The Laken Riley Act mandates the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to detain undocumented individuals involved in burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting and allows states to sue the federal government for immigration enforcement failures causing harm, including financial losses over $100. States can challenge decisions to release detainees, failures in asylum processing or visa issuance, violations of parole limits, and non-detention of deportable individuals. The bill now heads to the President’s desk for signing.

To top it off, newly appointed Border Czar Tom Homan wasted no time, with ICE arresting 308 illegal immigrants on the President’s first day—including many violent criminals, such as those charged with DUI, sexual abuse of a minor, and sex offenses. It’s clear the President’s team is moving swiftly to restore law and order at the southern border.

On the other hand, the President has swiftly addressed several long-overdue issues, and we’ll explain why these changes are a step in the right direction for our nation.

First, federal bureaucrats are crying foul about doing what every other American must: go to work five days a week. A significant portion of the federal workforce has been enjoying the luxury of working from home, your tax dollars deserve better.

Second, the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) signals a major push to eliminate waste and unnecessary regulations within the federal government. With Elon Musk, the man’s richest man, at the helm, there’s no doubt that this department will work to save taxpayers' dollars, stretching those hard-earned funds further than ever before.

Third, the President issued an executive order that directs the United States Federal Government to officially only recognize two sexes- male and female. This executive order also extends protections for women's sports, ensuring that only biological females should be participating. This change guarantees fairness and upholds the principles of Title IX, ensuring equal opportunities for women in athletics.

The honeymoon period will not last forever for this administration, and challenges will get increasingly harder. The Democrats will soon begin to create their new talking points and start fighting back on some issues that they feel like credibility is on their side. Congressional Republicans must continue to deliver on issues that voters in last November’s election awarded them the trifecta for. It’s imperative that Republicans do not spend the next two years picking pointless fights that do not address the President’s agenda, remaining unified on tricky but serious issues. The moment that infighting begins within the party, it is essentially over. Any distractions will only give the Democrats ammunition in their efforts to take back both the House and Senate in the 2026 midterms (only 649 days until the election).

As the President said in his inaugural address, the Golden Age has just begun.
